Page 1 of 2 EMERGENY EVACUATION PROCEDURES 1. IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY EVACUATION 1.1 Sound the nearest fire alarm. Staff should familiarise themselves with the location of the alarm panels around the building. 1.2 Call the Fire Brigade on 999 or 112 and give instructions clearly. Ideally this should be done from a mobile phone once you have left the building. 1.3 Where it can be done quickly and safely close windows and doors and switch off any gas or electrical appliance 1.4 The use of fire fighting equipment must not put yourself or others at risk, and priority must be given to sounding the alarm and ensuring that the Fire Brigade is called. 1.5 Evacuate the building using the nearest available exit. Staff should familiarise themselves with the location of fire exits around the building. The assembly point for WATMOS is in the car parking area to the rear of the building. 2. FIRE DRILL 2.1 A fire drill is required once per year. On hearing the sounding of the alarm, ALL staff and visitors must evacuate the building calmly, but quickly. The following points should be noted:  Do not stop to collect bags, coats, etc.  Do not obstruct the main exit routes.  Do not use the lift. Electrical power is usually the first building service to fail in the event of a fire. You could be trapped between floors.  Look out for smoke, use vision panels in doors. Always check doors with the back of your hand. Never open a door when you suspect there to be a fire behind it (oxygen).  Do not attempt to enter/re-enter the building whilst the alarms are activated.  You will be informed when it is possible to re-enter the building.  Appropriate arrangements must be made for disabled staff and visitors. 3. FIRE ALARM TESTING 3.1 The alarm system is tested each week. The alarm will ring for a few seconds only. If the alarm rings continuously at this time it is not a test and you should evacuate the building. Any changes to these arrangements will be communicated accordingly. 4. GENERAL FIRE PRECAUTIONS 4.1 General fire precautions include the following:  Do not prop or wedge open fire doors. These must be kept closed at all times.  Do not move or tamper with fire-fighting equipment.
