ORGANISATION FOR HEALTH AND SAFETY 5.1 Individual Responsibilities All employees have a legal responsibility to comply with statutory requirements of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. The ultimate responsibility for co-ordination of health and safety within the workplace lies with the Chair, Chief Executive and Board. Duties and responsibilities for health and safety are allocated as follows: 5.2 The Chief Executive and Board will: - In seeking to preserve and maintain WATMOS’ Health and Safety Management System: Ensure that responsibilities for safety, health and welfare are properly assigned, understood and implemented. Where necessary advise the WATMOS Board through reports of the resource provision necessary across areas for the implementation of the Health and Safety Policy and provide Members with information necessary for them to carry out their legal responsibilities. Ensure that WATMOS’ Health and Safety Policy is strictly observed and monitored by way of consultation between employee representatives in the workplace and management staff. Prepare and as often as necessary revise WATMOS’ Health and Safety processes and procedures. From time to time ensure that the performance of WATMOS in the field of health and safety is audited and take whatever action may be required. Where a work activity presents a serious and imminent risk of injury to person(s) ensure, via authority invested in the Housing Services Director,that the work activity ceases until the risk is removed. Seek advice from the Housing Services Director and make them aware of relevant health and safety matters as and when necessary. Monitor the effective implementation of WATMOS’ Health and Safety Policy and make all necessary reports. When making policy decisions on behalf of WATMOS, ensure that any relevant health, safety and welfare issues are fully addressed. Ensure that all service areas have sufficient numbers of competent people designated to help facilitate the successful implementation of WATMOS and service area policies. Ensure that Executive Directors and Managers collectively conduct health and safety inspections and complete the ‘Health and Safety Inspection Form’ (available on the WATMOS Intranet or form the HR Manager) on an annual basis.
